Lantern

Web Configuration Tool

The Configurator provides an easy-to-use interface for setting up and testing Lantern.
This page concerns running Lantern on your local computer. For remote server deployment, see Configuration (Remote) .

Features

Configuration

Quickly set up Lantern with pre-set configurations or custom settings. Select nearest RPC endpoint and add your API key.

Tests

Check status and make test RPC calls. Test both HTTP and WebSocket methods to verify your setup.

Benchmarks

Run benchmarks from the UI to see what speeds you can expect from Lantern on your system.

IDL Management

Upload IDL files for parsing account data with jsonParsed encoding.

Configuration

The primary function is to help you quickly set up and run Lantern. To get started testing:

  • Select the 'benchmark' pre-set configuration
  • Choose the RPC endpoint closest to you
  • Enter your FluxRPC API key
  • Select 'Save and Run'

If you know which Solana programs you want to cache, you can enter those instead. Click the information icon next to each field for contextual help.

If using Docker and want to serve on a port other than 8080, change both the config file and Docker-compose. The Docker instance needs to know which port to keep open.

Pre-Set Vault

Share your configuration with others. Your API key will not be saved in the pre-set vault.

If your configuration is successfully saved, you'll receive a shortlink to share. Anyone clicking the link gets your configuration loaded with their nearest RPC auto-selected and just needs to add their API key.

This feature is designed for development teams working on many applications who need to share and reconfigure Lantern often.

Experimental feature: May change in next version. For long-term storage, use the "Download" button. Safe for sharing configurations.

Tests

The Tests page lets you check the status of your local Lantern instance and make RPC calls. You can test both HTTP and WebSocket methods.

Requests for accounts or programs not stored locally will be forwarded to FluxRPC. Pre-filled requests work with the 'benchmark' configuration.

Any request that Lantern can respond to from cache should produce results without appreciable delay.

Benchmarks

Running benchmarks requires the benchmarking suite installed and running. The tool can run tests and display results graphically.

It assumes you're using the 'benchmark' pre-set configuration. For custom programs, click 'Advanced' to enter program details. Make sure Lantern is configured to cache that program and has finished startup.

Results should be very fast. Values in tens of milliseconds suggest Lantern can't serve from cache. Verify you're using the 'benchmark' configuration, have a valid API key, and startup is complete.

Custom benchmarks against very large programs will take longer for gPA requests. gAI and gMA remain very fast regardless of program size.

IDL Management

Upload IDL data into your Lantern instance. When available, Lantern uses IDLs to parse account data for jsonParsed encoding.

Specify which Solana program to interpret with the IDL file. If parsing fails, Lantern falls back to base64 encoding.

Lantern stores IDL files in the idl_files directory (same location as binary). Files can be deleted or replaced by uploading new ones for the same program.

During testing, parsing failures were most often due to errors in IDL file format. Some IDL files found online may not be compliant with the standard.
